The inspiration for this project was a video I saw with 3D modeled versions of the animated band, Gorillaz.  I wanted the look of this to be what I would imagine a cartoon version of the band to look like.

The challenge when modeling something like this, is creating the geometry so that it captures light and shadow in a way reminicent of lines in hand-drawn 2D animation.  The additional challenge of this project specifically, was recreating all the band members’ tattoos in Adobe Photoshop, and applying them as texture maps on the 3D models in Maya.

While the band members are obvious caricatures, the instruments are all based on actual ones they play, and are modeled realistically.
