KUBO AND THE TWO STRINGS
It bothers me that this animated film from 2016 hasn't gotten as much attention as I believe it deserves. It has a story that both children and adults can appreciate, and is also ABSOLUTELY BEAUTIFUL. That it was predominantly animated as stop-motion animation is astounding. I'm really hoping it receives the Oscar for best animated film, but I don't have my hopes up too high.
This comic series written by Rick Remender with art by Matteo Scalera, has been around for a few years now, having just reached issue #27, but it's become one of my favorite monthly comic books currently being published. I used to wait for the trade paperbacks to come out, but it's now part of my pull list at my local comic shop. I'm inspired by Remender, who's created a world where one can travel to infinite realities, giving himself the creative freedom to literally go anywhere at any time, and by Scalera's fantastic artwork, that has amazingly been present in every issue so far without a break.
THE NOTORIOUS LOWRIDER
What else would The Joker drive than a custom lowrider with hydraulic suspension? This is a great Lego set from the upcoming movie. Overall, this movie is looking like it will be a ton of fun. And despite having an animation style that strives to replicate the style of homemade stop motion Lego animations you might find on Youtube, the technical and animation skill required to pull this off is actually quite high.
